The following letter was published in the Chronicle on 2nd February 2006 (p 39) and the Brentford Chiswick & Isleworth Times on 3rd February, 2006 (p 7):
Dear Editor,
A future for Brentford Football Club?
What a great win against Sunderland on Saturday! There is an awful lot going right for Brentford FC at the moment. Apart from the win, the supporters’ trust (Bees United) has taken ownership of the Club, the team is pushing for promotion and the Club’s excellent work with the local community is thriving.
There is however a massive “cloud” hanging over the Club. It is the £8.5 Million of debt it has and its continuing financial losses. A solution has to be found if the Club is to survive in the medium-term.
This is not only a challenge for the Football Club Board and Bees United but also for everyone who would like to see the Club prosper.
A critical step toward the Club surviving would be the many occasional supporters that attended that superb FA Cup match against Sunderland attending games regularly. And all those supporters that do attend matches regularly becoming members of Bees United.
So why not start by coming to this Saturday’s match (4 February) against Walsall? You will see what an exciting place Griffin Park is at the moment.
If you would like to come a little earlier you can hear what the three candidates who are standing for election as Supporter Director have to say about how they plan to contribute to the future of the Club. The “hustings” meeting is being held in Stripes Bar, Griffin Park at 11.15 am. I am one of those candidates and, if you can’t make the meeting, you find out more about me and what I will contribute to the role by logging on to www.brentfordsupporterdirector.co.uk
If you are not coming to the hustings, please still visit Griffin Park to watch a match, join Bees United and be part of a winning team!
Yours sincerely,
Jon Gosling
Bees United Board Member and supporter director candidate
