Letter from the Brentford Football Club boardroom, 3rd April 2006

Dear Supporters,

This week I have been very busy with my paid employment. This has meant that I have not been able to devote much time on Football Club matters. Regrettably it even meant that I was not able to attend the MK Dons away game, which is one of the closest away grounds to where I live! Still it was an important win and one that I hope gets our promotion push back on track.

I did attend the Colchester game and I have to say that it was a real backs-to-the-wall performance and a valuable point gained. After the game one of the Colchester directors said to Martin Allen, “You were lucky today.” Martin replied to him, “No, you were lucky we did not play well!” which made us all laugh. The Colchester directors were very excited about being given the go ahead for their much-needed new ground at Cuckoo Farm. The aim is to move there around Christmas 2007. They expect it really to help their Club progress and it brought home to me just how much a new ground would help our Club by giving us additional, and much needed, commercial revenues and better facilities for supporters. I would however like to see some character built into our stadium and not be like some of the new grounds I have been to that seem “soulless.” One good thing about the current design of our proposed new stadium is that it will be close to the pitch, which will help remove some of the remoteness one often feels at the newer stadium. Still we have got some massive obstacles to clear before we are in Colchester’s position.

In my last letter I mentioned that fellow director David Heath was investigating the high profile ejection that took place at the Doncaster game. I understand from David that investigations are continuing although he hopes everything will be concluded this week.

Just as a reminder I will be holding my regular monthly surgery in the Princess Royal public house this Saturday, 8 April between 1.15 and 2.15 pm before we play Bradford City. Please come along and meet me and tell me what is on your mind concerning the Club.

Let’s work together!

Jon Gosling
