Letter from the Brentford FC boardroom, 13th November 2007
Dear Supporters,
I must say the support at Luton Town last Saturday was magnificent and in stark contrast to that of the home team, which was one of the quietest I have heard from any set of supporters for a long time. The home supporters were clearly nervous and there was quite a bit of barracking of their team and manager. Terry Butcher acknowledged the quality of our support after the game and how it helps the team, which certainly performed well. More of the same from you Saturday please!
In many respects the game was typical of the away support for this season which has been fantastic, even when we had that dire performance at Macclesfield. Terry took time to praise the support at that match. I know he appreciates the fact that you travel hundreds of miles to watch the team, sometimes not even buoyed with a great result or performance in the previous match. Nevertheless you are still there singing your hearts out for the team. Thank you.
I think the decision to reduce ticket pricing for this cup-tie is really positive and both Clubs must be applauded for this initiative. This season I have received many adverse comments about admission prices at Griffin Park. A few people have told me that the price reduction has persuaded them to come to this game when they would not have otherwise attended. We are dependent on gate income for around 50% of our revenue – so getting the pricing right to maximise income is absolutely crucial for the Club’s survival. It will be really interesting to see how much affect the price reduction will have on the attendance on the night.
One things for sure, a large crowd getting behind the team during an evening game produces a special atmosphere at Griffin Park. So do come down Tuesday week, get behind the team and you could be playing your part in starting one of the Club’s famous cup runs!
Let's work together!
Jon Gosling
