Updated Election Statement
There are two other candidates standing to become the Supporter Director for Brentford Football Club. We are all loyal supporters.
I have supported Brentford since 1969 but this election is not about how long you have supported the Club. It is about helping the Club build on its acquisition by the supporters, so that it has a sustainable future. Also communicating with the supporters encourages them to be part of that future.
My vision is that supporters, the local community and the Club employees all work together to build an inclusive and successful Brentford Football Club with a sustainable future in a modern stadium. Martin Allen is doing a terrific job in developing a team ethic both on and off the pitch and the non-playing leadership involved with the Club now needs to do the same.
A key part in developing this team ethic requires the non-playing leadership to be open in the way that it is managing the Club and communicating clearly about what happening. This will allow all of us to understand the realities of life at our Club, not least being £8.5 Million of debt.
The elected director will need to be able to ask awkward questions and constructively challenge the Board when necessary. The successful candidate must understand their statutory responsibilities, how business works and be able to discuss financial and strategic plans.
They will need to be comfortable speaking at Board meetings and to large groups of fans and may have to defend unpopular decisions to supporters .
In addition they need to be a good communicator, using all the communication channels open to them to ensure that supporters are aware what is going on at their Club.
I have these skills and experiences.
As a Bees United board member I have delivered on my previous election commitments whilst achieving successful results at board level in my professional life.
The Club continues to be in a perilous financial position and I want to work to ensure that the Club’s future is safeguarded for future generations. As the supporters’ representative on the Football Club board I will communicate with you on a regular basis and enable you to be informed about what is actually happening at your Club. By voting for me you will be voting for someone you trust to deliver on their promises.
