What happened at the Surgery?
On Saturday, 29 March I held a surgery for supporters in the Hive in the Braemar Road Stand. I met with nine supporters. I would like to thank all those that came to meet me. The main questions that they raised were:
- Will the playing budget be increased next season? The Club Board would like to and are investigating ways to do this; however we must ensure the money is available. If we commit to a budget greater than we can afford then we are likely to go into administration. Whilst losing 10 points would be serious enough, the far more serious consequence would be the threat to the move to Lionel Road. This is because one of the critical factors in progressing the new stadium has been the involvement of Bees United and Brentford being a community focused club. Administration is very likely to mean an end to Bees United’s ownership and the dream of a sustainable future for the Club.
- How many new players will Andy Scott be bringing in the close season? Andy has his targets for next season however the strength of the squad will depend on the size of the playing budget.
- What will the season ticket prices be next season? The Club Board are grateful for the loyalty of the supporters and in appreciation of this are not increasing prices. That is not to say the Club could do without the extra cash! We hope that by not increasing the prices for the third year running it will encourage more supporters to purchase tickets which are a vital source of cash for the close season.
- Will Bees United be making a share issue to raise capital for the Club? There are no immediate plans to do so; it is however one of several options being considered by the Board to finance the Club.
- When will Bees United be issuing a newsletter to members who don’t have access to the Internet? I understand that one is planned for the close season.
- What is the latest on the new stadium? We are now in the very early stages of discussions with short-listed architects about the stadium design. The new stadium team are keen to know the views of all supporters on what they would like to see at the new ground. An online questionnaire will be made available on the Bees United website and a hard copy of this will be offered to supporters at the Bradford City home game.
My next surgery will be in the Princess Royal before the home game with Hereford United, on Saturday 26 April. I will be there between 1.30 – 2.30 pm.
